Description
Idukki Arch Dam
Idukki Arch Dam is situated across the Periyar River with the hills of Kuravan and Kurathi in the Kerala state of India. The enormous height of this remarkable dam is 167 meters, and this has made it one of the most significant structures in the whole world. 108 meters (350 ft) in height and 68 meters (550 ft) in length, it is one of the tallest arch dams in Asia. Built by the government of Kerala in 1975, it can be a major point of interest among other places of interest in Idukki.
Also on the Periyar River, the dam helps to support a 780 MW hydroelectric power station.
The majestic nature of the structure in that area is surrounded by large hills, appeasing vegetation, and a general expanse of 60 sq. The beautiful, calm, and huge Idukki dam, along with its Tribe, Cheruthoni, and Kulamavu dams, exercise an enchanting allure over its tourists.
The dam is located 33 km away from Idukki District, and visitors can enjoy it only during the holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The admission fees are Rs 25 for adults and Rs 5 for children. At the same time for a 15-minute boat ride for up to five people, the charge is 600 rupees.
